Learn more about the Millionaires Tax with Faith Action Network

We are hosting a conversation on the Millionaires Tax! Learn about this important source of funding for our schools, families, and small businesses and why we are voting No on I-645 this November.

At Faith Action Network, we believe that budgets are moral documents. The choices we make about raising and spending public resources reveal whose lives we value, whose needs we prioritize, and whether we are willing to share responsibility for the well-being of our neighbors.

I-645 would repeal the Millionaires Tax package, a historic new law that will modestly increase taxes on just the top one percent of Washingtonians – while cutting taxes for the other 99%. Washington already has one of the most upside-down tax systems in the nation, where low-income and middle-class families pay a far bigger share of their income in taxes than the wealthiest. I-645 would make this worse by increasing costs for working families and putting critical tax breaks at risk of repeal, including those for lower-income families and small businesses.

Our diverse faith and wisdom traditions teach that wealth carries responsibility. They call us to care for children, welcome those on the margins, protect people who are sick or struggling, and ensure that workers can provide for their families. Asking households earning more than $1 million a year to contribute a fairer share is consistent with these values of justice, stewardship, solidarity, and care for the common good.

We know that talking about initiatives with your faith community may be hard. That’s why we have created some faith-rooted one-pagers on each of the statewide initiatives and are creating more resources on voting. Even if your faith community isn’t ready to take a position, we hope that these resources will help you talk to your fellow members, friends, and family using shared values-focused language.

Write a Letter to the Editor on the Millionaires Tax and More

Join us for a hands-on Letter to the Editor (LTE) Workshop with FAN staff on September 23, 2026, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm over Zoom. As we look for ways to engage our communities in free and democratic elections, writing an LTE is a great way to share a message with a wider audience and counter misinformation.

LTEs are short (150–250 word limit), targeted messages that use our personal voices to draw attention to issues affecting our communities. During the workshop, we’ll review best practices for writing and submitting impactful LTEs to our local newspapers. We’ll also share ideas for messaging in support of free & democratic elections, the Millionaire’s Tax, and No Hate in Washington State, as well as have individual time to write our own LTE.

Join us as we practice a new advocacy skill and get our messages out together this fall!
