Action Alert: Multifaith Solidarity with Embassy Suite Workers
Unionized hotel workers are now ON STRIKE at Hilton’s Embassy Suites Pioneer Square in Seattle during the World Cup! The fight for fair wages, humane working conditions, healthcare, and protections from immigration enforcement is a moral act, and the embodiment of the inherent worth of everyone – a core belief across our traditions.
Embassy Suites sits next to Lumen Field, where the World Cup games are being played. Local 8 members at the hotel are fighting for a new union contract that includes year-round healthcare coverage, protections from ICE, fair raises, and a return to pre-pandemic staffing levels.
Church Council of Greater Seattle and Faith Action Network are working together to support the picket efforts. We are sponsoring a shift this Saturday, June 20 from 11:00-4:00 in Pioneer Square! We need you and folks from your faith community to join us on the picket line Saturday! Joining a picket line is a low-risk way to live out our faith in action and support workers in Seattle. Bring your marching shoes (standing or bringing a chair is also welcomed), instruments or noise makers, and homemade signs in support of the workers (signs will be available on-site as well).
Can’t make it on Saturday? Here are other ways to support:
- Joining a picket line at the hotel (6a-9p daily) at 255 S. King, Seattle, WA 98144
- Donating to the Local 8 strike fund
