Spring 2022

Dear friend of FAN,

We trust that springtime is greening all around you, especially in our beautiful state where change is seen in the new green growth of evergreens, the melting snows filling the rivers, and purple lupine blooms in the desert. Every year at this time, we at FAN reach out to you with reflection on what we have accomplished, and what our own growing edge is for the year ahead, as we invite your financial support.

This spring we celebrate with you the good work of FAN staff, advocates, and coalition partners in passing important bills in the 2022 state legislative session—the list of those successes is included in this mailing. This is the work of collaboration, and these bills will transform the lives of many of our neighbors who still struggle financially after two years of the pandemic. We are happy to report that there was bipartisan agreement in our legislature that children need to be assured of good nutrition at school to be ready to learn. Parents raising children during this time will have access to other resources like a strong Working
Family Tax Credit and diaper subsidy. Access to health care for immigrants and those earning up to 400% federal poverty level was expanded, which will be good for everyone in our communities. More protections against gun violence were enacted to keep our communities safer, especially restricting high-capacity magazines, ghost guns, and guns in public places such as school board meetings. Funds were made available to support refugees coming to our state from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and other countries. In other areas of our agenda, criminal justice and police reforms did not pass, and bills to address the climate crisis were tabled.

You know there is always more work to be done and an urgency to continue doing it! The growing edge of FAN’s work is to increase the engagement of our statewide network in carrying out policy advocacy and our dreams for our communities. Your support helps us
keep growing and adapting to current needs! Please consider a gift to FAN this spring:

  • Make a gift online to celebrate our FAN founding anniversary June 11. Visit FANWA.org and use the orange DONATE button anytime to help celebrate our 11th birthday!
  • Contribute to FAN by sending a check to P.O. Box 80663, Seattle, WA 98108, where every dollar immediately helps support our work for justice!
  • There will always be emerging needs for faith advocates to help bend the arc toward justice, seek racial equity, and promote healing through social change. We are inviting you to include FAN in your planned giving. Please see our brochure and consider how your own plans align with FAN’s commitment to the common good.

FAN is all of us working together! As we move forward, building on the strong foundation established in our first ten years, we will continue to dream and strategize for our future. We will continue to stand with people impacted by divisive rhetoric, violence, racism, and white supremacy across our state, as we have this year in the wake of attacks against faith communities. We will find ways to raise our statewide voices in critical national conversations that impact the wellbeing of our communities. FAN’s growing and greening statewide will mean renewed efforts to support regional organizing in each area of our state. We continue to expand our staffing to strengthen the partnerships that are core to FAN. Your engagement, continuing advocacy, and financial support for our shared work is valued and essential.

We give thanks for you as we take the next steps toward the common good. The way forward is together!

With gratitude on behalf of Faith Action Network Governing Board and staff,

Elise DeGooyer
FAN Executive Director
