Trade 101 for Environmental Activists
February 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Last year, a United Nations report on climate change stated that we have 11 years to stop on-going damage to climate change. In the wake of a looming climate catastrophe, activists like Greta Thunberg and other youth across the globe have responded–planning climate strikes, meeting with elected officials, and drawing attention to the crisis. Since NAFTA was signed in 1993, the oil and gas companies have used our trade policy as a chance to lock in fossil fuel dependency and prohibit the US from committing to carbon targets and climate initiatives globally.
The Lutheran Peace Fellowship February program will give an interactive explanation of how our trade policies work, explore how our trade policies keep us from getting the paradigm-shift climate policies we desperately need to stop climate change, and discuss what we can do about it.
