Interfaith Advocacy Days – Register Now

Registration for Interfaith Advocacy Day in Olympia is now open! It will be February 20, 9 AM – 3 PM, starting at The United Churches of Olympia. Click here to register.

This event is a great opportunity to join workshops that will break down the issues on FAN’s 2018 Legislative Agenda, learn current best practices on how to advocate in today’s legislature, prepare for briefings and hearings with advocates from your legislative district, and meet with your legislator! Download a flyer and share it with your friends, family, and faith community.

This year, we’re working hard to make it accessible. If you live far away and would like a place to stay near Olympia the night before IFAD, we’ve reserved space at Gwinwood Retreat Center in Lacey. You can get a room and light breakfast for $30. Contact Erin if you’re interested. If you have limited access to transportation, we’re exploring the possibility of renting a bus to travel from Everett, making stops along the way south to Olympia. Please contact Erin if you’re interested and willing to help us cover the cost (possibly up to $30; contact us if you need a scholarship for that).

If you live east of the mountains, we have other advocacy days in store for you! First, in Spokane on Saturday, January 27, from 8:45 AM to 3 PM, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., five bishops and regional church leaders will join in a panel discussion on “Framing Faithful Discourse for the Common Good” for the 2018 Eastern Washington Legislative Conference. The panelists will explore the involvement of faith communities in public policy in these divisive times. Seven workshops will address environment, criminal justice, education, homelessness, affordable housing, reconciliation with tribes and faithful response to hate. Paul Benz for FAN and Donna Christianson for the WA State Catholic Conference will provide an overview of legislation in the 2018 session. To RSVP, send a suggested donation of $20 (or $15 each for groups of five or more) to The Fig Tree, 1323 S. Perry St., Spokane, WA 99202, call 509-535-1813 or email [email protected]. Please download the event flyer and share it with your faith community.

Yakima Advocacy Day will be February 10, 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM at Central Lutheran Church. The theme will be: “How are the Children? Advocating for Youth and Families.” It will be a free event, include lunch, and have translation available. Download a flyer to share, and register here.
