FAN Statement to the Jewish Community

March 1, 2017

Dear Friends,

We were deeply disturbed to hear of the bomb threat at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island and the ripples of fear it has caused in your community, as increased threats have caused fear in communities across our nation. We are also troubled by anti-Semitic vandalism in Ballard and elsewhere. We want you to know that the Faith Action Network stands with you amid the rise of anti-Semitism across our country.

Rabbi Aaron Meyer from FAN’s Governing Board reminded us recently to “maintain constant vigilance toward the array of fires before us.” We see a threat to one of us as a threat to all of us, and seek to stand in solidarity in the face of threats to Jews, Muslims, immigrants, refugees, African-Americans and LGBTQ communities.

Rabbi Ruth Zlotnick spoke in a FAN press conference in February in Olympia: “All of us—people of faith—we create around us when we stand together a sukkat shalom, a shelter of peace.” Please let us know how we might help make this sukkat shalom more tangible for you, and how we can be part of a circle of protection and support to your communities.

Together we will build the moral strength that will overcome threats, hate crimes, and discrimination in our communities.

In Solidarity and Hope,
