Solidarity with Ironworkers

June 29 @ 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Reinforcing ironworkers place and tie steel bars – called rebar – to strengthen the concrete in buildings and other structures. The work requires stamina, strength, and bravery. Beginning last October, ironworkers at Bulwark Construction and Walker Rebar and other contractors in the area began protesting horrific working conditions – lack of proper safety equipment, abusive supervisors, pay about 1/3 of the industry standard, and even refusal by management to provide water on the job. Some workers have gone on strike. Nearly all of the reinforcing ironworkers are immigrants.

On Thursday, June 29, we’re going to show the community’s solidarity for ironworkers by visiting them at jobsites, distributing water to them, letting them know about their rights on the job, and inviting them to the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network community barbeque.

Please join with Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, immigrant rights advocates, union members, faith leaders, and others in this important immigrant solidarity action!

Kindly let Jonathan Rosenblum know if you can join us on Thursday:
