Social Justice Film Festival

November 16 - November 21

If ever there was a time to fight for social justice, it’s now. The 6th annual Social Justice Film Festival returns November 16-21, tackling social-justice issues straight from the headlines.

 

Highlights include:

Stories of Immigration
Nov. 16 | 8 pm

Several shorts offer multinational perspectives on refugees, life in a new country, the quest for asylum, and the intersection with human trafficking, followed by the feature film Trails of Hope and Terror. This film explores historic U.S./Mexican conflicts and economic forces behind the current crisis over the border, immigrant workers, and families. Sponsored by Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

The #Resistance Night
November 17 | 6:15 pm
Join us for a night that showcases the best in climate-change activism. Watch short films by Our Children’s Trust about 21 extraordinary young people who are suing the federal government in a landmark climate lawsuit, then watch Naomi Klein’s documentary This Changes Everything. Stay for a panel discussion with Seattle teenager Aji Piper, one of the youth plaintiffs and a member of Earth Guardian’s Rising Youth for a Sustainable Earth. Sponsored by Columbia Legal Services.

Black Lives Matter: Whose Streets?
November 18 | 8 pm
Join us for Whose Streets?, an unflinching look at the Ferguson uprising after the death of Michael Brown. Cultural critical and activist Darnell L. Moore will lead a post-film discussion. Moore helped organize the Black Lives Matter Ride to Ferguson and developed the infrastructure of the BLM Network. Moore was recognized as one of The Root’s Top 100 influential black leaders for 2016. Sponsored by Northwest African American Museum.
